You’ll probably recognize it.\u00a0Looking at today\u2019s modern apps, receiving instant notifications is one of the things that changed the way how we are informed about breaking news and tasks. Now this is also possible with SAP Fiori.<\/p>\n

If we look it from a procurement perspective, nowadays managers, who need to approve a shopping cart, will be notified with an e-mail that can contain different kind of information so that they are able to approve the shopping cart. These are the so-called offline approval e-mails and can be seen as an instant notification about a certain task.<\/p>\n

With the introduction of the SAP Fiori apps, managers can use the Approve Shopping Cart<\/em> app to approve shopping carts. However managers need to open the app manually in order to retrieve the pending tasks. But wouldn\u2019t it be nice if a manager receives a push notification instead?<\/p>\n

Unfortunately the standard SAP Fiori Client doesn\u2019t support push notifications. The standard SAP Fiori Client works against the Fiori Front-end server and\/or SAP Gateway directly, but when you route a Fiori application through the SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) server, additional capabilities, such as Push Notifications, will become available to the application.<\/p>\n

This is managed by Kapsel, which is a set of plugins that are available from SMP 3.0 SDK SP04. The Fiori client and\/or app can be wrapped within Kapsel, so that it can make use of push notifications.<\/p>\n

Though running SAP Fiori apps through SMP has a side effect on license cost. SAP Fiori is available for free within your SAP license, however running an app through SMP will increase the license cost per user. This could have a negative impact on your business case, if you want to introduce SAP Fiori within your company. In my opinion push notifications are a fundamental part of a business process which is depending on approval steps. Here are notifications essential!<\/p>\n

Push notification aren\u2019t only available through SMP. There are alternatives available. A good example of a 3rd<\/sup> party solution is the SAP Fiori Notifier Add-On<\/a>. The configuration is an Add-On to your SAP system which you can use with your SAP Fiori installation.<\/p>\n

Though if you decide to implement push notifications either through SMP or with a 3rd<\/sup> party solution, you probably don\u2019t want to send offline approval e-mails to the manager anymore to avoid inconsistencies in approval tasks. Approval tasks will not be removed from your mailbox, when they already have been executed through the app.<\/p>\n

This becomes possible as a continues improvement within SP8 of SAP SRM 7.0 Ehp3, where you can switch off the e-mail notifications for different kind of business objects, such as the shopping cart and the purchase order. Another benefit here is that it also reduces the e-mail traffic within your organization and has positive impact on tables which are using this functionality.<\/p>\n

U herkent het vast wel.\u00a0Vandaag de dag is het ontvangen van meldingen vanuit moderne apps \u00e9\u00e9n van de manieren waarop we worden ge\u00efnformeerd over het laatste nieuws en uit te voeren taken. Nu kan dit ook met SAP Fiori.<\/p>

Als we dit vanuit een inkoopperspectief bekijken, ontvangen managers die een winkelwagen dienen goed te keuren een e-mail, die verschillende informatie kan bevatten, zodat zij in staat zijn om de winkelwagen goed te keuren. Dit zijn de zogenaamde offline approval e-mails en kunnen worden beschouwd als een direct bericht dat wordt ontvangen voor een bepaalde taak.<\/p>

Met de introductie van de SAP Fiori apps, kunnen managers het goedkeuren van een winkelwagen doen via deApprove Shopping Cart<\/em> app. Echter is hierbij het nadeel dat managers de app altijd moeten openen om de openstaande goedkeurtaken op te halen. Zou het niet mooi zijn als een manager een push-bericht ontvangt in plaats van regelmatig de openstaande taken te controleren door de app te openen?<\/p>

Notificatie in de app<\/em><\/p>

Helaas ondersteunt de standaard SAP Fiori Client geen push-notificaties. De standaard SAP Fiori Client werkt met de Fiori Front-end server en \/ of direct via de SAP-gateway, maar als je een Fiori applicatie routeert via de SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) server, zullen extra mogelijkheden, zoals push-notificaties, beschikbaar komen.<\/p>

Dit wordt mogelijk gemaakt door Kapsel. Dit is een set van plug-ins die beschikbaar zijn vanaf SMP 3.0 SDK SP04. De Fiori Client en \/ of de app kan worden verpakt in Kapsel, zodat het gebruik van push-notificaties mogelijk wordt gemaakt.<\/p>

Het routeren van SAP Fiori apps via SMP heeft helaas een impact op de licentiekosten. SAP Fiori is gratis beschikbaar in uw SAP-licentie, maar wanneer u een Fiori app via SMP laat lopen, zullen de licentiekosten per gebruiker stijgen. Dit heeft een negatieve invloed op uw business case, als u SAP Fiori wilt implementeren binnen uw bedrijf. Naar mijn mening zijn push-notificaties een belangrijk onderdeel van een bedrijfsproces dat afhankelijk is van goedkeuringsstappen. Hier zijn meldingen van essentieel belang!<\/p>

Push notificaties voor SAP Fiori zijn niet alleen realiseerbaar via SMP. Er zijn ook alternatieven beschikbaar. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan is de 3rd party oplossing SAP Fiori Notifier Add-On<\/a>. De configuratie is een add-on op uw SAP-systeem die u samen kunt gebruiken met uw SAP Fiori installatie.<\/p>

Maar als u besluit om push-notificaties, hetzij via SMP of met een 3rd party oplossing te implementeren, wilt u waarschijnlijk niet dat er nog steeds offline approval e-mails naar de manager worden verstuurd. Dit veroorzaakt een inconsistentie in de goedkeurtaken. Taken in uw mailbox worden namelijk niet verwijderd, wanneer u dit al via de app heeft uitgevoerd.<\/p>

Hiervoor kunt u wel een verbetering toepassen, want in SP8 van SAP SRM 7.0 EhP3, kunt u de e-mailberichten uitschakelen voor verschillende business objects, zoals de winkelwagen en de bestelling. Een ander bijkomend voordeel is dat dit ook het e-mailverkeer binnen uw organisatie vermindert en heeft tevens een positieve invloed op de tabellen die gebruik maken van deze functionaliteit.<\/p>
